Tires?

I never really think about the tires on my car unless they require replacement or air but this I found interesting. This article was sent to me by Richard Smith of Crown Commercial Capital. Thanks Richard.

There is a code on tires that tell you how old they are.  If you look at your tires you will see a DOT number that stands for Department of Transportation.  The numbers will say DOT followed by a couple of letters and numbers and then a circle with 4 numbers.  The 4 digits in the circle are the date.  The first 2 numbers are the week the tires were manufactured.  For example if the first 2 digits were 06, the tire was manufactured in the 6th week of the year or the middle of February. The last 2 digits in the circle are the year the tire was manufactured. For example if the tire said 0605, that tire was manufactured around February 15th, 2005.  That tire would be around 4 years old.  In another couple years it would be time to replace it even thought there is plenty of tread left.

Since the rubber in your tire start to decompose after 6 years, well you get the picture. I guess it is like the wind shield wipers that seem to need replacing whether I use them or not. Thanks to Richard, I will never look at tires the same way again.  Hopefully this will help you as well.
