What's in a name? Houston Freeways
I admit that I am a transplant but I got here as quickly as I could. Even though I have been here for a number of years, the interchangeable names of the freeway systems still bewilders me. So I found a chart to help make sense of some of the major freeways and maybe it will help you as well.
Beaumont Hwy is known as I-10 East: Located between Downtown & Baytown
East Freeway is known as I-10 East: Located between Downtown & Baytown
Eastex Frwy is known as U.S. 59 North I69: Located between Downtown & Kingwood
Gulf Frwy is known as I-45 south: Located betwen Downtown & Galveston
Katy Frwy is known as I-10 West: Located between Downtown and San Antonio
The Loop is known as Loop 610: Circular Loop around Houston
North Frwy is known as I-45 North: Located between Downtown & Conroe
Northwest Freeway is known as U.S. 290: Located between Downtown and Conroe
Southwest Freeway is known as U.S. 59 south: Located between Downtown & Sugarland
South Freeway is known as S.H. 288: From SW FRWY to Freeport
